Nature, Creativity, & Community
Green Seed gardens and workshops bring people together across generations to learn, create, and grow in relationship with each other and the living world.
In these wild times, we can choose to help shape a culture that supports our capacity to thrive and contribute meaningfully to the world we share. This is something we weave together.
Every thread matters.
At its heart, this is a practice of reciprocity—tending the commons for a regenerative culture.
Our Leadership Team
Green Seed Arts is led by a small team committed to making regenerative culture accessible, participatory, and enlivening.

Our Roots
Here are some of the movements, practices, and ways of seeing that have influenced how we gather, teach, and build community — for those who are curious about where we're coming from.
Social Ecology & Systems Thinking
Rooted in the idea that ecological problems are deeply tied to social hierarchies, social ecology invites us to imagine non-hierarchical, cooperative, and life-affirming ways of living together. Systems thinking helps us understand interdependence and feedback loops within those worlds.
Permaculture & Regenerative Design
Not just gardening! Permaculture is a design philosophy for creating sustainable, interconnected systems—ecological, social, and economic. Regenerative design goes further, aiming not just to sustain, but to heal and enliven the places we touch.
Expressive Arts & Creative Practice
We believe creativity is a life force, not a luxury. Expressive arts allow for nonlinear learning, emotional processing, and communal beauty-making. Artistic practice is woven into many of our offerings as a tool for self-discovery, connection, and joy.
Therapeutic Horticulture
Rooted in the ancient connection between humans and plants, this field uses gardening and plant-based practices as pathways to healing, regulation, and sensory integration. Especially powerful for children and intergenerational groups.
Unschooling & Alternative Education
We align with education models that trust children, center intrinsic motivation, and emphasize learning through play, relationships, and real-world engagement. We draw from unschooling, forest school, Reggio Emilia, and other liberatory approaches.
The Work That Reconnects
A body of work developed by Joanna Macy and others that helps people face ecological grief, rediscover interconnectedness, and act with courage in uncertain times. It weaves systems thinking, deep ecology, and spiritual practice into a spiral process of reconnection.
Work That Reconnects
Post-Capitalist & New Economy Thinking
We’re experimenting with ways of working and exchanging that don’t depend on extraction or hustle. This includes sliding scale models, gift economies, cooperative frameworks, and the belief that thriving should not be a privilege.
Mycelial Networks & Interdependence
We love fungi. But beyond that, we love the metaphor: decentralization, mutual support, quiet resilience, underground connection. This influence touches how we imagine our team structures, digital presence, and community outreach.
FAQ
Q: What exactly is Green Seed Arts?A growing ecosystem of programs, gatherings, and resources designed to help people learn, create, and connect in regenerative ways.
Q: Is this just for kids or families?
Nope. While many of our offerings are kid-friendly or family-centered, we’re cultivating spaces for all ages—especially changemakers and dreamers who know they have beauty to bring the world. If something here sparks your curiosity, you’re welcome.
Q: Is it really about 'the arts'?
Yes—and. We believe the arts are more than performance or piece. They're how we remember, connect, imagine, and repair. Our work lives at the intersection of creativity, culture-making, and ecological literacy. So while you’ll find painting, storytelling, music, and play—you’ll also find systems thinking, nourishing space design, and regenerative education. It's all part of the same creative ecology.
Q: Do I have to be local to Santa Cruz?
Not necessarily. At this time, most of our offerings are rooted in our bioregion. As we grow, we plan to share everything we learn about tending regenerative culture with anyone, anywhere who wants to do the same..
Q: Is this a nonprofit?
We’re a purpose-driven venture with a regenerative funding model. That means we reinvest in people, land, and ideas that align with our vision—and we’re working toward a hybrid structure that lets us stay flexible and grounded.
Q: How can I support this work?
We’d love that. You can give through our upcoming seed fund campaign, help spread the word, or just be part of the field by using and sharing our free resources (coming soon).
Q: Where do I start?
The home page is a great place to begin. From there, you can explore all our current offerings and join our interest lists for future sessions.
Q: What if I just want to browse?
Totally welcome. This site is designed to be useful and inspiring whether you engage deeply or simply gather ideas for your own world-building. There will be more resources added over the next weeks, so feel free to come on back and check on us anytime.
